What is the Green Homes Grant Scheme Local Authority Delivery (LAD) Scheme?

Funding has been allocated to local authorities to improve the energy efficiency of privately owned homes (owner-occupiers) in their area, helping lower energy bills, reduce fuel poverty, phase out high carbon fossil fuel heating, and deliver progress towards the UK’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

Funding is limited and is only available for a short time, and as it is provided by Government it may be subject to change. If you are interested though, please contact us as soon as possible.

North East Derbyshire District Council

If you are a homeowner (owner occupier), you may qualify for free external solid wall insulation, cavity insulation or loft insulation (new / top-up) under the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme.

Only specific properties are being targeted, in areas where similar works have been delivered on behalf of North East Derbyshire District Council / Rykneld Homes. Those that meet the funding criteria, will be eligible for installing free energy efficiency upgrades, such as external wall insulation.

By focusing on installing measures in a specific area, North East Derbyshire District Council can deliver better value for money, installing energy-saving measures that will help with the impact of rising energy bills and increase the warmth and comfort of your home.

How does this work benefit me?

You should reduce the impact of energy price increases, and the work will also mean that your home is warmer in the winter, and more comfortable in the summer.

There are other health and well-being benefits and the value of your property could also increase too.

This project was designed by North East Derbyshire District Council with you in mind.

Will I need to pay anything?

No. The work will be fully funded for homeowners (owner-occupied properties).

The grant provided through North East Derbyshire District Council is limited to cover external wall insulation, cavity insulation, loft insulation and draught proofing works, and eligibility is subject to initial property survey and household / property criteria.

Property Survey & Energy Assessment

After submitting your enquiry online, or through the post, North East Derbyshire District Council and Sustainable Building Services (SBS) will confirm your initial eligibility.

SBS will then arrange for one of their energy surveyors will need to visit your property to complete a retrofit assessment (at no cost to you or obligation to proceed ), typically taking 1 – 1 ½ hours, to determine the energy improvements that are suitable for your home.

Note: all works and approval will be subject to meeting scheme requirements.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES

External Solid Wall Insulation

Older homes are more likely to have solid walls. If your home was built pre-1920, or is known as a ‘ non-traditional’ or ‘system-built’ property (typically built post WW2), it is likely your home has no or a narrow cavity and therefore is solid wall.

The installation of an external wall insulation system has a ‘thermal jacketing’ effect that keeps heat in during winter whilst keeping your home cooler during the summer months, providing a more comfortable internal living environment.

Another major benefit is that external wall insulation also provides the opportunity to refresh or update the look of your home.

The product we install is the PermaRock EPS-Premium external insulation system, accredited and compliant with the latest England & Wales Building Regulations, and installed on 1000’s of existing and new buildings each year.

Typically, the system will incorporate 90mm rigid insulation boards, attached adhesively and with fixing pins into your existing walls, this is then finished on top with a number of basecoat and render layers to complete the system – you will only actually see the final render finish(es) at the end of the installation.

What will my property look like?  Do I require Planning Permission for the work?

No, we have obtained confirmation from the local planning department that the external wall insulation, and the other energy measures that could be installed, are classified as ‘Permitted Development’, so no formal planning approval is required.

In the instance of external wall insulation, the exact appearance will be confirmed to you, and agreed, post-retrofit assessment and prior to any approval from you and North East Derbyshire District Council that works can proceed. The appearance will be similar to those in the area installed by Rykneld Homes.

Should any property owner wish to have a rendered finish (appearance) outside the scope agreed with the local planning department, this would fall outside of ‘Permitted Development’ and would require the property owner to submit a full planning application.

There will be costs associated with the process, and it can take several months to gain approval. As funding is limited under this scheme and is only available for a short time, there is no guarantee the works could then be funded under this scheme due to these constraints.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Most homes built after 1935 will be constructed with a masonry cavity wall.

This is where there is a gap between your internal and external wall which can be filled by drilling a series of holes and filling the gap between your internal and external walls with an insulating material, which helps to keep heat in and reduce your energy bills.

The work only takes around half to a full day to complete. Homes built after 1995 should already have adequate levels of insulation in the cavity.

Loft Insulation

Insulating your loft should be one of the first energy-saving measures you should consider. It’s a quick and easy method of keeping your home warm.

As much as a quarter of the heat of an uninsulated home is lost through the loft and roof. This is easily preventable, by ensuring your loft is adequately insulated.

These days, building regulations require loft insulation to be around 10-12 inches thick (270MM+). If your home does not have this level of insulation or no loft insulation you should consider enquiring.
